Change of plans

Although originally I wanted to use this domain name and facebook page to teach Hungarian, I realized people are more interested in the country than the language. I think that is actually completely understandable, only the bravest/ most determinate don't scare away from it after hearing our alphabet.😊 Honestly, if I wasn't Hungarian I don't think I would ever learn this language, even though it is beautiful.
Oh yes, I am Hungarian. I was born in Miskolc which used to be the second largest city of Hungary after Budapest. I was born in the last decade of the communist regime, so I can see the differences or sometimes similarities between life back then and now but that is another issue, let's not go into politics now.
I'd like to emphasize that this vlog/blog is based on my personal experience, so apart from sharing facts, data and useful information I don't think I'll be able to completely discard my personal impressions. So maybe another Hungarian from a different background would tell you the complete opposite or simply would argue with me, but I think that's normal.
My goal is to show you this country and its people from the point of view of a Hungarian. A Hungarian who lived and travelled abroad several times, whose friends are from different nations regardless of their ethnical, religious or sexual orientation. I hope you will find it interesting and useful and if you are planning to visit Hungary you won't feel you arrived to a country full of aliens as one of my teachers at the university stated in his book with the same title. Greetings – Üdvözlés

What else could I start with if not the different ways of greetings? :) Although English greetings can be translated to Hungarian, there are slight differences regarding when and how to use them. Hello!/ Hi! / Szia!/ Szevasz! /Szervusz! Hello! - because of English influence we use „Hello!”, as well as „ Hi!” but funnily we use them not only to „say hello” but also to „say good-bye”. So it is completely normal and accepted if a Hungarian says „Hello” at the end of the conversation. Similarly we use „Szia” in both cases too, and yes, the pronunciation is very similar to See you! :) Szevasz! and Szervusz! are also used but not so frequently. Another thing to remember is that age matters in Hungary. :) What I mean is, if you meet someone for the first time and clearly they are much older than you, try to avoid using these greetings.
